On Sunday, two climate change campaigners threw soup at the bulletproof glass that protects Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” in Paris, calling for the right to “healthy and sustainable food”, an AFP journalist reported.
Two women hurled red and orange containers of soup at the glass that was covering the smiling lady, to the delight of onlookers in the Louvre museum in Paris, a video journalist for AFP reported.
The activist was representing the French group “Riposte alimentaire” (Food Response), who said in a statement that the protest was “aimed at highlighting the importance of protecting the environment and food resources.”
Art has been a major focus for many climate change campaigners in recent years. In May 2022, for example, a protest was held outside the Louvre, where a glass was covered in cream.
Other stunts include throwing soup on Vincent Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” at London’s National Gallery in October 2022, and plastering Goya paintings in the Prado museum in Madrid the following month.
